Biography

Attorney Eugene F. Getty has 20 years of experience handling cases in New York. While much of Mr. Getty's practice focuses on working with co-ops and condominium associations, he also heads the firm's trust and estates practice and handles bankruptcy matters for businesses. He graduated with a B.S. from the State University of New York at Binghamton and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School. Mr. Getty is well versed in several of the firms practice areas. His practice focuses on Cooperative Apartment Corporations and Condominium Associations and has represented large Mitchell-Lama cooperatives regulated by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition to handling regulatory issues with supervisory agencies, Mr. Getty provides his cooperative and condominium clients with advice and guidance on finance, construction contracts, construction litigation, corporate governance, commercial leasing, mortgage refinancing and other matters necessary for the successful operation of housing companies. Mr. Getty also has experience in Bankruptcy matters and successfully represented a New York hospital in the first pre-packaged Chapter 11 filed in the Eastern District of New York. Mr. Getty’s current Bankruptcy practice is focused on representing his Landlord client’s in connection with tenant business or individual filings. Mr. Getty also heads the firm’s trust and estates practice providing trust and estate administration services, probate proceedings, preparation of estate tax returns and preparation of wills and estate plans. Mr. Getty received his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School in 1989 and his B.S. from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1985. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1990 and to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York in 1991. Mr. Getty is a member of the New York State Bar Association, where he participates in the Real Property Law Section and the Trust and Estate Section.
