Biography

Carol A. Herlihy received her B.A. magna cum laude and her Juris Doctorate from New York University and NYU's School of Law. She has been representing clients in legal transactions and disputes for more than 25 years, and works with landlords and tenants in a wide array of matters. Ms. Herlihy represents both landlords and tenants in litigation in the Civil Court’s Housing Part and Supreme Court, in the appellate courts and at the state and city housing agencies. Among Ms. Herlihy’s landlord clients are not-for-profit supportive housing providers and low income housing cooperatives, as well as small and large private owners. She represents both tenants associations and individual tenants. She has represented many clients in cases with significant issues in the areas of primary residence, subleasing, successions, warranty of habitability, hoarding, rent overcharge, loft law, unauthorized alteration, unlawful eviction. Outside the field of landlord-tenant law, Ms. Herlihy has handled plenary litigation for clients in real estate and business disputes. Ms. Herlihy advises clients on compliance issues arising from the rent regulatory laws, and performs due diligence research for clients seeking to acquire rent-regulated property. Ms. Herlihy earned her J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1982 and her B.A. magna cum laude from New York University in 1978. She was admitted to the New York Bar in 1983, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York in the same year. Professionally, she has served as a panelist on “Lawyer’s Roundtable,” a series of broadcast discussions focusing on landlord-tenant issues. Outside of her legal career, Ms. Herlihy has been a dedicated member of the Brooklyn Blades Women’s Ice Hockey Club for 15 years, playing both right wing and defense. She also has a passion for opera.
