Biography

Jeanne-Marie Williams has been practicing law in New York for 15 years. The head of the firm's supervised housing group and a landlord-tenant lawyer, Ms. Williams has a thorough understanding of the laws and regulations set forth by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. She received a B.A. from the State University of New York at Binghamton, an M.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and her Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School. Ms. Williams heads our affordable and supportive housing group and handles our clients’ landlord-tenant issues before administrative agencies, trial courts and appellate courts. She is fully versed in the Mitchell-Lama Rules promulgated by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal as well as the occupancy regulations for Subsidized Multifamily Housing projects as promulgated by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition to her litigation expertise, Ms. Williams consults our clients on succession issues, occupancy qualifications, internal transfer questions and HPD audits. Ms. Williams also has a great depth of experience representing commercial and not-for-profit owners in Housing Court and before the various appellate courts. While her practice focuses on landlord-tenant matters, Ms. Williams also has considerable experience representing individuals, corporations and residential cooperatives in general litigation. Ms. Williams holds a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, which she completed in 1994, and an M.A. in Applied Anthropology from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, earned in 1990, where she was a recipient of the Applied Anthropology Fellowship. She also obtained a B.A. from Binghamton University, State University of New York, in 1987, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Admitted to the New York State Bar in 1995, she is an active member of the New York State Bar Association, Real Property Law Section. Outside of her professional life, Ms. Williams is involved in the PTA at her sons' public schools in Brooklyn and enjoys skating across ice, road, and roller derby tracks.
